Program Description

The Bachelor’s Degree (BS or BA) in General Studies (GNST) is a customized set of study that allows the student to pursue an academic program that fits their educational, professional, and career goals. Through individualized advising, the program helps students define their educational goals and design multidisciplinary curricula drawing on a variety of course offerings. The purpose of the degree program is (1) to provide flexibility to students with broad interests, (2) to offer an option to those with new interests or those changing their majors late in their academic careers, and (3) to maximize opportunities for individuals to pursue graduate studies and advance their careers.

    Aurora University's online general studies degree allows students to customize their studies to their goals and interests. Students can maximize their transfer credits, advance their career, and boost earning potential. The program is designed for busy, working adults. Students will develop professional skills and build comprehensive knowledge. Instructors use open educational resources (OER) in place of traditional textbooks when possible, helping to lower the total cost. The online general studies degree provides a tailored academic experience that offers flexibility. Students choose the courses that meet their personal and professional goals, and learn from faculty members who have real-world experience in a variety of industries. Students have the opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom to real-life situations through an optional internship. Placement support is available, and students will be paired with a faculty mentor in their field who will provide feedback on internship-related assignments. Internships can be completed locally or at the student's current place of work, assuming it meets the program director’s requirements.
